Men's Heavyweight Rowing Finishes Second in Blackwell Cup

PHILADELPHIA – For the second consecutive race, the University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight rowing team took second place. Saturday afternoon the varsity 8 finished second to Yale in the Blackwell Cup, hosted by the Class of 1967.

The Bulldogs set the pace in the varsity 8, coming in at 5:22.9. Penn edged Columbia by two seconds, finishing at 5:32.0. The Quakers second varsity 8 won for the second straight race, clocking at 5:34.1. Yale finished just behind at 5:36.3.

Columbia took the freshman 8 with a time of 5:34.1. Yale came in two seconds behind the Lions and Penn finished 22 seconds off the pace at 5:56.6. Yale’s B and A crew’s finished first and second, respectively, in the second freshman 8. The Quakers came in third at 7:01.4.

Penn will not race again until EARC Sprints, hosted by the Classes of 1962 and 1992, in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday, May 13.
