Men's Heavyweight Rowing Open Spring in San Diego

PHILADELPHIA--The Quakers will travel cross-country to take part in the San Diego Crew Classic this weekend. It isPenn's first competition of the spring racing season.

Penn competed at the Crew Classic in 2005. The Varsity 8 finished fifth in the Copley Cup grand finals and the junior varsity grand final, the Red and Bluetook fourth.

This season at the Classic,Penn will face Cal, Princeton, Yale, Northeastern and Purdue in the "B" race of the Copley Cup preliminaries. Washington, Harvard, Stanford, Syracuse, Ohio State, Colgate and UCSD will take part in the "A" preliminary for the Copley. That race is set for Saturday at 8:40 a.m. PDT.

The Freshman 8 will will challenge for the Derek Guelker Memorial Cup. They will contend with Notre Dame, SDSU, Loyola, UCI, USD and UCLA in the "B" race. The "A" and "C" races for the Cup will feature 14 other teams. Penn's "B" race is set for Saturday at 9:45 a.m. PDT.
