Men's Heavyweight Rowing Wins Season's First Race


PHILADELPHIA--The Quaker men's heavyweight rowing opened the season with a win over George Washington in the Varsity 8 race, Saturday. The teams raced on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

In the Varsity 8, Penn clocked a time of 5:37 in the 2K finishing three seconds ahead of the George Washington crew at 5:40.

Penn also won the 2nd Varsity 8 race with a time of 5:48 while GW's 2nd Varsity team finished at 5:51. In the Freshman 8, GW beat the Quakers finishing at 5:53 while the Red and Blue crossed at 6:06.

In the Frosh 4+ race, Penn finished in second between two GW crews with a time of 7:04. The first George Washington boat finished at 6:42 while the second was just behind the Quakers at 7:05.

The Quakers kick off the cup race schedule with the Adams Cup, April 7 in Boston against Harvard and Navy.
