Men's Lacrosse Announces 2008 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania men’s lacrosse program has announced its 2008 schedule. The 13-game slate features six home games at Franklin Field, and includes three teams that participated in the 2007 NCAA Championship.

“We have put together a very difficult schedule, which should help us in our goal of reaching the NCAA playoffs,” said sixth-year head coach Brian Voelker. “Between the fantastic rivalries within the Ivy League, and the quality of our non-conference opponents, our team will again be challenged every week.”

Following scrimmages against Fairfield (Feb. 9) and Rutgers (Feb. 16), the Quakers are home for their first two games of the season, on consecutive weekends against Drexel (Feb. 23) and Villanova (March 1). The following weekend, Penn heads to Denver, Colo., for a pair of games, against Air Force (March 8) and the University of Denver (March 9).

The Quakers then knock out the Ivy League portion of their schedule, playing six in a row against Ancient Eight opponents. The run starts March 15 at Yale, and continues the next two weekends with home games against Harvard and Cornell (last year’s Ivy champion and an NCAA semifinalist a year ago). The second half of Penn’s Ivy ledger involves road trips to Dartmouth (April 5) and 2007 NCAA participant Princeton (April 8), and concludes with a home game against Brown (April 12).

Penn finishes the 2008 campaign with three daunting non-conference tasks. The Quakers are at perennial power Maryland on April 19, followed a week later by another trip to the Old Line State for a matchup with Towson. The 2008 regular season finishes with a home game against Army (May 3).

Penn enters the 2008 campaign looking to improve upon its 6-7 record from a year ago and earn its third NCAA Championship bid in five years. The Quakers went 3-3 in the Ivy League in 2007, defeating Yale, Dartmouth and Brown; it marked the second-straight year and the third time in four seasons Penn has been .500 or better in the always-difficult Ivy League.
