VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Penn men's lacrosse team got off to a quick start Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium, as Alex Weber and Garvey Heiderman scored in the first four minutes to put the Quakers up 2-0.
It was all Villanova after that, though. The Wildcats scored four unanswered goals before the quarter was over, and added another early in the second. They never looked back in defeating the Quakers, 14-7.
Craig Andrzejewski -- who assisted Heiderman's first goal -- scored twice in the second quarter for Penn, but both of those goals were answered, first by Tim Driscoll and then by Matthew Fritts.
Villanova put this game away in the third quarter, outscoring Penn 5-2 to take a 12-6 lead. Andrzejewski and Heiderman were the Quaker goalscorers in the quarter. In the fourth, sophomore Morgan Griff sandwiched a goal between two Villanova tallies to set the final score.
Penn wasonly outshot 31-30 by Villanova, but Wildcat goalkeeper Andrew DiLoreto had 13 saves to keep the Quakers at bay. At the other end, Greg Murray had nine stops. Corey Winkoff had two assists for Penn, and the Quakers won 14 of 26 faceoffs on the day.
Penn returns to action next Friday, hosting Denver at Franklin Field. The Quakers and Pioneers will face off at 3 p.m.
