Men's Lightweight Rowing Hosts Matthews-Leonard Cup Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Saturday morning the University of Pennsylvania men’s lightweight rowing team hosts Cornell and Harvard in the Matthews-Leonard Cup. This will be Penn’s first home race of the spring season.

Although Harvard also traditionally competes in this race, the cup goes to the winner of the Penn versus Cornell match up. The Quakers have taken 27 cups, while Cornell has 35. The Big Red have taken the last 13 cups, including last year when they finished at 6:38.8. Penn clocked at 6:41.9. The Quakers are looking to take their first cup since 1990.

Last Time Out

Penn edged the Scarlet Knights by six seconds to win the Lev-Brett Bowl, finishing in a time of 6:05.3. Penn’s freshman eight also picked up a win. They came in at 6:20.5 – 11seconds ahead of Rutgers.
