Men's Rowing Teams Both Take Third at Rutgers Fall Classic


NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - On Saturday, the heavyweight and lightweight rowing teams sent their novice boats to the Rutgers Fall Classic on the Raritan River. Both teams had two eights in the race, and the first boats for both groups finished fourth.

In the team competiton, both the heavyweights and lightweights had third place finishes on combined scores of the two boats. Each of the schools competing in the race had two boats competing with both crews assembled evenly.

For the heavyweights, the first eightfinished the 2.5 mile course in 13:56, a finish 39 seconds behind Navy's first boat. The second eight for Penn finished sixth with a time of 14:24. Combined, the two Penn boats' time of 28:20 was third behind Navy (26:46) and Columbia (27:39).

The lightweights had their first boat cross in a time of 14:10, finishing 21 seconds behind Navy's first boat. The second boat under the Red and Blue banner finished in 14:41. Combined, the time of 28:51 was third behind Navy (27:48) and Delaware (28:38).
