PHILADELPHIA – In a game which featured minimal chances on either side, it was an early free kick for West Virginia which provided the difference as the University of Pennsylvania suffered a 1-0 defeat at Rhodes Field.
Mike Desiderio scored the opening goal for West Virginia, getting to an Andy Bevins free kick service from 30 yards out and heading it in for his second goal of the season.
Each team had just one shot on goal, Forrest Clancy adding Penn’s only shot towards target in the second half.
The Quakers return to Rhodes Field on Saturday, playing Brown in Ivy League action. Kickoff for the Homecoming Match is set for 7:30 p.m.
