Men's Soccer Earns Honors at PS6 Banquet

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's soccer team had two players named to the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star Team, and another who was named the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year. The announcements were made December 1 at the Soccer Six's annual banquet which was held at the Sheraton University City.

A pair of sophomores was named to the All-Star team, midfielder Christian Barreiro and defender Thomas Brandt. Barreiro was Penn's leading scorer this year, with six goals and three assists for 15 points. Brandt, meanwhile, started 16 of Penn's 17 matches and anchored a Quaker defense that shut out six opponents and finished with a 1.44 goals-against average.

Junior Aaron Ross earned the McAdams Award. The history major played in all 17 matches at midfield, making 13 starts, and had two assists.

The Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year was La Salle junior Ryan Richter, while the Explorers' Jeff Pio and Villanova's Kyle Soroka shared Rookie of the Year honors. Temple and Drexel were co-champions of the Soccer Six this year, and Temple head coach Dave MacWilliams was recipient of the Bill Harris Coach of the Year Award for the third time in his career.
