PHILADELPHIA--After a stellar performance over the weekend, winning the Penn Soccer Classic, the Penn men's soccer team will take on Philadelphia Soccer Six opponent Temple. Kick off will take place in Ambler, Pa., Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 pm.
The Owls are coming off a 2-0 win against Albany, Sunday, but suffered a crushing 3-2 overtime loss to Navy on Friday. The Red and Blue will enter Wednesday's game with a3-1-2 record.
Offensively, Penn has been looking strong since its first win against San Diego. Sophomore Christian Barreiro not only scored two goals in that game but went on to assist another. Senior Alex Takakuwa leads the Quakers with four goals this season while junior Tobi Olopade has also been contributing with two goals and two assists.
While the offense has been scoring enough to win, the real story has been Penn's defensive efforts. With two consecutive shutouts, the defense allowed just one shot on goal in those games. Junior keeper Ben Berg now has three shutouts to his credit and boasts a 1.09 goals-against average.
For the Owls senior J.T. Noone set the Temple all-time assist record (21) dishing one in the 2-0 win over Albany. Noone is not the only threat in the Owl line up with junior Max Kinderwater receiving all-tournament honors along with Noone at the STIHL tournament while sophomore Tyler Witmer earned Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Soccer Six player of the week honors.
