PHILADELPHIAThe Penn men's soccer team hosts Columbia Saturday night in one of just three games left at Rhodes Field this season. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. The Quakers (7-1-3, 1-0 Ivy) are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season with a win against the Lions (2-6-1, 0-1 Ivy).
The Lions’ record hides the truth behind the number of tough opponents and a 3-1 win over then-No. 6 UC-Santa Barbara. Bayo Adafin leads the Columbia offense with four goals this season. Last season, he had a goal and an assist against the Quakers, but it was not enough to overcome Penn in the Quakers’ 3-2 victory. In goal for Columbia, Alex Aurrichio holds a 1.28 goals-against average and has one shutout.
Meanwhile, the Quakers’ Omid Shokoufandeh has tallied six goals this season, just one less than all the Lions combined. Seniors Andrew Ferry and Kevin Unger have also scored four and three goals, respectively. In goal, senior Drew Healy has secured the Penn net with a 0.67 goals-against average and seven shutouts.
Last week, the Lions opened the Ivy League season with a 2-1 loss to No. 24 Brown. The Quakers travelled to Cornell for their first Ivy game and escaped with a close 3-2 win.
