VILLANOVA, Pa.--The Penn men's soccer teamcontrolled much of the game, but came away with a scoreless decision against city foe Villanova, Monday. The Quakers' record was set at 0-1-1 with their first shutout of the season going to junior keeper Ben Berg.
The teams started the game well-matched, but after the first 10 minutes, Penn dominated the possession. Still neither team scored despite several nice chances from Alex Takakuwa, Michael Kozak and Christian Barreiro for the Red and Blue and a handful of 'Nova shots.
The pace increased in the second half as both teamstook twice as many shots as the clock would down on regulation. Both keepers came up crucial saves during the game to preserve their shutouts. It was the first in Berg's collegiate career after making four saves.
The Penn defense also stepped up to secure the shutout with solid contributions from Jake Levin, Lee Rubenstein, Zach Barnett, and Thomas Brandt.
The Quakers will shift coasts for their next two games with a trip to San Diego to take part in the San Diego State tournament facing SDSU and San Diego on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
