PHILADELPHIA--The Quakers played to a 1-1 tie for the second consecutive match. This time Penn came back to score in the 71st minute and tie Lehigh Saturday night at Rhodes Field.
Lehigh struck first with a goal from Kyle Evans in the sixth minute. Evans now has 13 points in six games this season. The goal came after Evans collected a through pass from Jim Taranto and beat the defenders and Penn keeper Drew Healy, low to score.
Penn worked to create chances in the remaining minutes, but split at the half still down a goal. In the second, the Quakers had three cornerkicks late in the second half. The third time was the charm as Alex Grendi sent a the ball into the fray. Junior Alex Fairman headed it low and into the net. Mountain Hawks goalkeeper Brian Lee was too far out of place to make the save and the Quakers tied the game.
With 19 minutes left, the teams both upped the intensity, playing to allay overtime. Though both teams had opportunity, neither scored and the match went to overtime.
Penn had three shots to the Hawks' two in the overtime periods, but again, neither team could finish and they parted tied.
Healy made four saves in the match while Lee grabbed seven for the Mountain Hawks.
The Quakers will stay in the state and travel to State College, Pa. to take on the "other" Penn school, Big Ten foe, Penn State onSept. 26 at 7 p.m.
