PHILADELPHIA--Join Penn Athletic Communications for an in-game blog during tonight's matchvs. Cornell.Kickoff is set for7:30 p.m.
7:05 p.m. It is the final match of the season for theQuakers and they will honor its three seniors--Derek Hobson, Jeff Livingston and Keith Vereb--in a pre-game ceremony... here is a little about each of the seniors...
Out of San Diego, Calif., Derek Hobson co-leads the team this season with 10 points. Hobson has started all but four matches in his four years in the Red and Blue. He has scored eight goals and tacked on nine assists in that time. Five of those goals were match-winners, including two this season that lifted Penn over Hartwick and American. He is a two-time All-Ivy selection, a 2005 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic selection, and as a freshman was named the team’s Charles R. Scott Most Valuable Freshman. He also earned a weekly nod from the Ivy League his freshman year when he was named Rookie of the Week, Sept. 13.
A Dunedin, Fla. native, Jeff Livingston is a three-year letterwinner who has been a mainstay on the backline for Penn the last three seasons. Though you won't see his name in the stats often, Livingston's contributions to the defense are numerous. In his tenure, he started 41 consecutive games and during his sophomore and junior seasons he was a leader on the defense that secured 16 shutouts that contributed to former Quaker Dan Cepero’s record 23 career clean sheets.
Hailing from Bowie, Md., Keith Vereb is a three-year letterwinner at Penn. He is a two-time All-Ivy selection and earned first team honors in 2006. He was a contributor from the beginning, missing just one start in 46 matches and recording 12 goals and four assists from his defensive position. A clutch player, Keith has made goal-line saves and scored three game-winners. Two more of his of his goals sent the match to overtime, including a late-game, bending free kick against Penn State this season. In his career, he earned weekly honors from the Ivy League and Philadelphia Soccer Seven, twice.
