PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's squash team gained its first victory of the year as they rolled over Franklin and Marshall, 8-1, Wednesday night at the Ringe Courts. The Quakers improved to 1-2 on the season as F&M fell to 0-2.
Penn dominated the courts with junior James Clark, freshman Zuhaib Mohiuddin, sophomore Brooks Russell, and senior Christopher Thompson winning their matches 3-0. Senior Mark Froot and sophomore Trevor McGuinness each took their opponents to five games, making for the most exciting matches of the evening.
McGuinness came back from a 0-2 deficit to capture the final three games, including the fourth that took a 12-10 score. Froot battled back and forth, winning the first two but then surrendering the second two to rival Gabriel De Melo, who Froot fell to last season. Froot prevailed, taking the fifth game, 11-8, to break the stalemate and clinch the victory.
The Quakers return to action this weekend when they host Ivy foes Yale on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Brown on Sunday at 11 a.m at the Ringe Squash Courts.
