Men's Squash Downs No. 14 Navy 6-3

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Off to its best start since the 2006-07 season, the 13th-ranked University of Pennsylvania men’s squash team improved its record to 3-0, defeating No. 14 Navy 6-3 Thursday evening.

Senior captain John Dudzik clinched the victory for Penn with a 3-0decision over the Midshipmen’s Randy Beck, improving his individual record to 3-0 on the season.

With the scored tied 2-2 early on, Navy (9-1) was poised to challenge the Quakers, before victories by captain Jack Maine and sophomore Augie Frank swung the match in Penn’s favor. Dudzik was then able to secure the victory, and Penn’s best start to a season since the 2006-07 campaign, when the Quakers began with seven straight victories.

Maine and Frank improve their individual records to 3-0, along with Michael Mutscheller and George Lemmon. Liam Quinn earned his first victory of the season defeating Navy’s Colin Barry 3-2 in the No. 3 position.

Senior Derek Chilvers and freshman Rahil Fazelbhoy – playing in the No. 2 position for the first time – suffered their first defeats of the season, while sophomore Tyler Odell dropped his second match of the year in the No. 1 position.

The Penn men’s team will take its 3-0 record into the break, where they will enjoy a training trip to San Diego, Calif. The Quakers will return to competition after the New Year on Jan. 11, when they travel to Hanover, N.H. and begin the Ivy season by taking on Dartmouth.
