Men's Squash Falls to Princeton, 8-1

PHILADELPHIA - The No.5Penn men's squash team fell to Ivy League rival and No. 4Princeton, 8-1, Wednesday night at Ringe Squash Courts.

It was the final home match of the season for the Quakers (7-4, 2-2 Ivy League)as seniors Colby Emerson and Jacob Himmelrich played for the final time at Ringe.

"I'm pleased," said Head Coach Craig Thorpe-Clark. "I felt we could've done a bit better. Princeton is a talented team - they came within a point of beating Trinity - but they just have more firepower."

The lone Quakerpoint of the night came from a dramatic five-game win by Himmelrich. Down 2-1, he went to the brink in his final two games but won both to win 3-2 (4-9, 9-1, 4-9, 9-8, 10-8).

"Jacob's match was typical of his career - he's gutsy and determined," said Thorpe-Clark. "For him to pull it out was a real fitting ending. I thought it was great."

With the match already decided at 7-0 to Princeton, Himmelrich and freshman Andrew Zimmerman turned in the night's most entertaining matches. Zimmerman broke out to a 2-1 lead but fell, 3-2 (0-9, 9-6, 9-6, 6-9, 7-9) at the No. 5 position. Penn only managed two other points in the top nine, as Graham Bassett lost 3-1 at No. 6 and Will Simonton fell 3-1 at No. 8.

Penn returns to action Saturday when it heads to No. 2Harvard for a noon start.
