Men's Squash Falls to Yale in First Round of Championships, 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Penn men's squash team fell to Yale in the first round of the Team Championships Friday, 7-2. The sixth-ranked Quakers lost three matches 3-2, falling in heartbreaking fashion to the No. 3 Bulldogs for a second time this season.

Yale got off to a quick start as Penn's Ryan Rayfield dropped a 9-3, 9-2, 9-0 match at No. 9 and Joey Raho fell at No. 6, 9-5, 9-7, 9-4. It looked as if the Quakers would be able to get back into it, though, as No. 3 Mark Froot took his first two games, 9-5, 9-2. Unfortunately for Penn, Froot was unable to grab a third victory, as he dropped the last three games 9-6, 9-2, 9-1 to lose the match.

Spencer Kurn got the Quakers on the board at No. 2. After losing the first game 9-1, he won 9-7 in the second game before his opponent was forced to retire.

Yale did not let up, though. Both Parker Justi at No. 8 (5-9, 9-7, 9-1, 8-10, 9-1) and James Clark at No. 5 (2-9, 2-9, 9-4, 9-6, 9-1) lost in five grueling games to give Yale a 5-1 lead in the match, clinching the victory.

Senior Lee Rosen did not let the defeat slow him down as he dominated at the No. 1 position, winning 9-2, 9-6, 9-0.

The Quakers will try to salvage some of their weekend on Saturday as they take on Dartmouth at 1 p.m. The Quakers defeated Dartmouth last week, 7-2.
