Men's Squash Shuts Out Cornell in Season Opener, 9-0

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s squash team opened the 2006-07 season in grand fashion by defeating Cornell, 9-0, at Ringe Courts Saturday afternoon. The Quakers (1-0, 1-0 Ivy) swept at every flight.

Gilly Lane fended off Chris Sachvle, 3-0 at No. 1. At No. 7, Graham Bassett was perfect, winning all three of his games 9-0. Six different Penn players won at least one game by shutout. Along with Bassett, Ryan Rayfield was the only other Quaker to win more than one game by shutout. He defeated Ian Holton, 3-0 (9-0, 9-0, 9-2).

Lee Rosen, Spencer Kurn, Ben Ende, Andrew Zimmerman, and Will Simonton were all victorious by 3-0 scores.

Penn will not be in action again until Dec. 2, when they play at No. 4 Yale at 1 p.m.
