Men's Squash Suffers Close Defeat at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - Falling behind early, the 10th-rankedUniversity of Pennsylvania men's squash team suffered a 5-4 defeat at eighth-ranked Princeton Wednesday afternoon.

Penn (6-4, 1-2 Ivy) fell behind 3-0 to start the match, before picking up a match, making it 4-1. Princeton (4-4, 2-1 Ivy) then clinched the match before Penn won three straight, making the final score 5-4.

Freshman Marwan Mahmoud proved a bright spot for Penn, claiming his fifth straight victory in the No. 1 position, winning 3-2 in five games. Junior Augie Frank also won his match in five games, picking up his eighth individual victory on the year.

After a tough stretch of four losses, freshman Hayes Murphy has now won consecutive matcheswith his3-0 win versus Princeton on Wednesday. Classmate James Watson continued his impressive run in the No. 5 position, collecting his ninth win of the season.

The Quakers will look to rebound in Ivy play at No. 4 Yale on Saturday, before facing No. 13 Brown on Sunday. For a preview of the weekend matches, please click here.
