Men's Squash Sweeps Past Brown, 9-0

PHILADELPHIA - Rebounding from a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to No. 4 Yale yesterday, the No. 6 Penn men's squash team dominated its match with No. 9 Brown, winning 9-0 Sunday at Ringe Courts.

The Quakers (2-2, 2-1 Ivy) only dropped a single set to the Bears (0-3, 0-3 Ivy).

"Today was a strong effort," said Head Coach Craig Thorpe-Clark. "The guys rebounded well after a tough match, both physically and mentally. I was most encouraged by the guys and their attitudes today."

Spencer Kurn prevailed in a tough battle against Brian Rifkin, winning 3-1 (9-6, 3-9, 9-7, 9-4) at No. 4. Gilly Lane at No. 1 (3-0; 9-4, 9-3, 9-1), Lee Rosen at No. 2 (3-0; 9-7, 9-7, 9-4) and Ben Ende at No. 3 (3-0; 9-2, 9-2, 9-4) were all winners.

Penn dominated the low flights, giving up just 22 points combined in flights five through nine.Parker Justi picked up his first collegiate win at No. 9 by a 3-0 (9-1, 9-3, 9-1) scoreline, Graham Bassett won No. 8 3-0 (9-0, 9-2, 9-1), and Will Simonton won at No. 7, 3-0 (9-0, 9-4, 9-0). Andrew Zimmerman improved to 4-0 on the season witha 3-0 (9-0, 9-4, 9-3)victory at No. 6 while Jacob Himmelrich won 3-0 (9-1, 9-1, 9-1) at No. 5.

Penn breaks from its Ivy League schedule Tuesday night for an intrastate battle with Franklin & Marshall at 6 p.m. at Ringe.
