Men's Squash Travels to Navy for Midweek Match

PHILADELPHIA - Penn men's squash heads to Annapolis, Md. Wednesday to face Navy at 6 p.m. in their first match of 2010. The Quakers (2-3, 1-2) have had over a month break since their last action - a 6-3 win over Brown on Dec. 6.

In their last meeting, Penn came away with a 9-0 victory over the Midshipmen on Dec. 4, 2009. In fact, the Quakers have earned wins in their last eight meetings with Navy, and own a 40-27 series advantage. The last time Navy defeated Penn was in 2001 when the Mids earned a 6-3 win at the Ringe Courts.

With a busy schedule, No. 14 Navy has already played 18 matches (14-4), and has had a chance to shake the rust Monday in their first match back from the holiday break. The Mids swept No. 21 Hamilton 9-0.

The eighth-ranked Quakers are led by senior Mark Froot in the No. 1 position with a 3-2 record. Froot will likely match up with Navy No.1 Nils Mattsson, brother of Penn sophomore Thomas Mattsson. Thomas competed in Penn's top spot for the season's first two matches, but has been unable to participate since then due to injury. Junior Porter Drake has also contributed three wins for the Quakers.

Penn looks to stretch its win streak over Navy to nine, while also starting the New Year with a win for the tenth straight year.
