Men's Squash Upends No. 7 Princeton, 7-2

PHILADELPHIA – There were many tired smiles and hugs going around Ringe Courts at the end of the evening, as the 10th-ranked University of Pennsylvania men’s squash team overtook No. 7 Princeton 7-2, on Monday.

The Quakers (6-2, 2-1 Ivy) were able to break a losing streak against Princeton that dated back 40 years and 45 matches. It wasFebruary of 1974, the last timePenn defeated the Tigers, also at home, by the score of 5-4.This time,the Red and Blue were able todefeat Princeton (3-4, 1-2 Ivy) byrelying on the strength of a lineup that refuses to give in.

Co-captains Jack Maine and John Dudzik continue to lead by example on the court, with Dudzik winning 3-0, and Maine battling from down 2-0 to pull out a 3-2 victory.

While Maine was making his comeback, freshman George Lemmon won a 12-10 decision in game four and prevailed in a marathon game five, 17-15.

The ninth position in the ladder sealed the victory for the Quakers, with freshman Benton Turner winning 3-1.

Penn will look to continue it strong play as it takes on third-ranked Yale, Saturday in Ringe Courts at 1 p.m.

---After the women's team 6-3 victory over Princeton on Wednesday: For the first time in Penn squash history, both the men’s and women’s teams have defeated Princeton in the same year.

Both the Penn men’s and women’s victories against Princeton are a first for the Quaker squash program.

Before this week, the men’s team last victory against the Tigers had come on Feb. 13, 1974, winning 5-4. The women’s squash team, in its first year of varsity play in 1974, was defeated by Princeton, 10-1 and 9-0 that season, thus making the 2014 season the first Penn sweep of the Tigers in the regular season.---
