PHILADELPHIA – Beginning the 2014-15 regular season on the road in Maine over the weekend, the ninth-ranked University of Pennsylvania men’s squash team defeated Bates and Colby on Saturday, before defeating Bowdoin on Sunday.
The Quakers (3-0) began the season defeating No. 13 Bates (3-2) in its first match Saturday morning, 7-2. Five freshman were in Penn’s ladder in the season opener; Marwan Mahmoud, Derek Hsue, Hayes Murphy, Anders Larson, and James Watson.
Saturday evening, Penn traveled to No. 23 Colby (2-1) and blanked the Mules, 9-0. Senior Michael Mutscheller, junior Augie Frank, and sophomores Rahil Fazelbhoy and George Lemmon picked up victories along with the five freshmen.
On Sunday at No. 22 Bowdoin (1-3), the Red and Blue again won 9-0, with Hsue, Murphy, Larson, Watson, Fazelbhoy, Frank, and Lemmon picking up their third victories of the weekend.
The Penn men’s squash team will return to action after Thanksgiving break with its first home match of the season against No. 16 Navy on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. in Ringe Squash Courts.
