Philadelphia - Despite a slight change in the events swam during the meetthe Penn men’s swimming and diving team downed La Salle, 167-132 on Thursday night in its last meet of the regular season. Chaz Maul and Alex Kalish led the Quakers with two individualfirst-place finishes apiece. As a team, the Red and Blue won every freestyle distance event except the 100.
In lieu of the end of the season and impending championship meets, Penn's head coach Mike Schnur and La Salle's head coach Matt Nunnally decided to incorporate more short distance events and have swimmers take part events they were not accustomed to. The meet included a 50 yard sprint in the breaststroke, backstroke and free.
Maul took first in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, while Kalish swam to first in the 500 and 1000 free. The Quakers took both of the diving events, Jeff Cragg placed first in the 1 meter, while Alex Marple won the 3 meter. Larkin Macdonald (100 backstroke),
Brett Gomes (50 free), and Brendan McHugh (200 free) each added a top finish for Penn.
The Quakers have a couple of weeks off before heading to Cambridge, Mass. for the ECAC Championships on Feb. 27- Mar. 1 followed by the EISL Championships on Mar. 5-7 in Princeton, N.J.
