PHILADELPHIA It is championship season for swimming and diving, which means the Penn men’s swim team is headed to the ECAC Championships in Cambridge, Mass. The meet is scheduled to start Friday morning and continue through the weekend at Harvard’s Blodgett Pool. Preliminaries start at 10:00am (9:00am on Sunday), finals start at 6:00pm (4:00pm on Sunday).The Quakers will send a strong team to Massachusetts, but will give 17 of their top players the weekend off to prepare for the all-important EISL Championships which are scheduled for next weekend (March 5-7).
The Red and Blue finished the regular season 6-5 overall and placed second at the competitive Kenyon Invitational. At last season’s ECAC Championships Penn finished 18th in a field of 26 teams, which was highlighted by several strong performances. Steve Martucci placed 10th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 500 freestyle events, while Penn’s 400 medley relay and 200 medley relay teams placed 13th and 15th respectively.
