Men's Swimming Opens 2013-14 Season at UConn

PHILADELPHIA -- To open the 2013-14 season, the University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s swimming teams will dive into competition against the Connecticut Huskies on Saturday at 1 p.m. The meet will take place in the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.

In last year’s meet with the Huskies, the men secured a win at Sheerr Pool, 169-130. In hopes of another win, the Quakers will look to the return of sophomore Chris Swanson, who earned a bid to the NCAA Men’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships as a freshman. Senior Rhoads Worster will also bring back his skills in the water and out, as he set a Penn record in the 100 Butterfly and was named a team captain.

Worster was also a part of the record-breaking 400 Free Relay last year with junior Alex Porter, junior Dillon McHugh, and sophomore John Germanis. Porter, McHugh, and Germanis also broke the 200 Free Relay last year along with sophomore Eric Schultz.

Even though this is the first meet for the Red and Blue, the Huskies have already hosted both Army and Villanova and enter Saturday’s meet with a 2-0 record. UConn opened their season with the Knights two weekends ago and won by a 90-point margin, 197-107. The following weekend was the matchup against the Wildcats, with the Huskies winning 228-66.
