Men's Swimming Races Past La Salle, 181.5-113.5

PHILADELPHIA - The Quakers won their second straight meet versus a city rival, defeating La Salle 181.5-113.5 on Tuesday evening.

Penn recorded 12 victories in the first 14 events as three swimmers recorded multiple victories on the evening. Junior Cameron Hood won distance freestyle events, taking the 500-yard free in 4:44.62 and winning the 200-yard free in 1:43.10. Fellow classmates Jeff Cragg and Brendan McHugh also won a pair of events.

Cragg had the highest score in the 1-meter diving event with 284.63 points and was even better in the three meter event. His score of 336.15 won the event by more than 30 points and is just four points shy of his career best. McHugh swept both breaststroke events once again, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.70 and taking the 200 in 2:07.64.

The Quakers led off the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the foursome of freshman Rhodes Worster, McHugh, junior Peter Amos and junior Brett Gomes finished in 1:34.40. Worster also won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.94 while Gomes earned top honors in the 100-yard free (47.78).

Sophomore Stephen Carroll won the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:33.66 and junior Matt Krey touched first in the 100-yard back with his time of 52.51. Freshman Paul Maneri rounded out the first-place finishes with a 51.94 in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Red and Blue return to action Feb. 11-12 when they swim at the Terp Invite in College Park, Maryland.
