PHILADELPHIA - The Quakers fell in a hard-fought battle, to Central Florida, 4-3.
The men had a tough fight in the doubles match. At the No. 1 spot, juniors Jason Pinsky and Eric Riley lost 8-2, to Central Florida’s Sinan Sudas and Johan Beigart, 8-2. In the No. 3 spot, Brandon O'Gara and freshman Adam Schwartz were down 6-4, and battled back to beat Tarek Ben Soltane and Jimmy Roesch, 8-6. With the first two doubles groups finished, the point came down to sophomores Jonathan Boym and Justin Fox. Down 5-4, it looked like they might make a comeback, but Brock Sakey and Norman Alcantara were too much for them, as Penn lost 8-4, and conceded the doubles point.
Pinsky made easy work of his opponent, Ben Soltane, in the No. 1 singles spot, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Losses in the bottom three singles spots did in the Quakers, as Riley lost to Beigert, 6-1, 7-6(3), Schwartz fell to Ener Gursoy, 6-3, 6-2, and O’Gara lost 6-3, 6-4 to Alcantara.
In the No. 2 spot, Boym and Sudas fought hard, but Boym came out on top, 7-6(6), 6-3, while Fox took Sakey to three sets, ultimately winning. He lost in the first set, 4-6, but battled back in the second and third, winning each, 6-3, 6-3.
