FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -The Penn men's tennis team begins a busy weekend on Friday at the USTA College Invitational asa Quaker appearsin every draw but H Singles of the 12-flight event. A complete list of first round matches can be seen below.
There will be some familiar faces across the net for many of the Quakers as six of the 10 opponents in singles come from other Ivy League schools. Ivan Turudic and Eugen Brazdil are the two Penn representatives in the A draw and could potentially face the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds, Vasko Mladenov of St. John's and Marc Powers of Yale,in the second round with victories. Powers defeated Brazdil last weekend in the first round of the Princeton Invitational.
In the B singles draw, Phil Law and Nikola Kocovic will get first-hand looks at the Columbia tandem of Nathaniel Gery and Winston Lin, the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds in the bracket. Penn's lone champion last weekend at Princeton in the D Flight, Jeremy Court, moves up from theC draw for this weekend and will face Cameron Ghorbani of Dartmouth.
Ghorbani will be a familiar figure for two other Quakers as he will team with Alex Centenari to take on the Penn duo of Turudic and Zach Katz in the A Doubles draw. In C doubles, Brazdil and Robert Wong garnered the No. 1 seed and will take on Bill Bishop and Joris Vanbeck of Marist.
