Men's Tennis Breaks into ITA Top 75

SKILLMAN, NJ – For the first time since 2012 and second time since Albert G. Molloy Head Coach of Men’s Tennis David Geatz took over at the helm, the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team has made the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Top 75 Team Rankings. Released by the ITA on Tuesday, the Quakers make their debut tied at No. 51 with Purdue. The Red and Blue are the fourth highest Ivy school in the ITA rankings, right behind Dartmouth at No. 50. The last time the Quakers were as high as No. 51 was at the end of the 2006 season.

Penn earned this week’s spot on the list after defeating then-ranked No. 16 Penn State on the road, 5-2. It was the first time the Quakers defeated the Nittany Lions since 2006, 4-0, at the ECAC Championships, and they lead the overall series with PSU, 37-14.

Including Penn, three programs made their debut in the ITA Top 75 this week, and out of the three, the Quakers came in highest on the list. Fellow Ivy rival Brown came in at No. 68 and UC Davis is No. 72. Each of the three teams defeated ranked opponents, with the Red and Blue’s win over No. 16 Penn State being considered as “the biggest upset of the year”.
