Men's Tennis Continues to Move Up in ITA Rankings

PHILADLEPHIA – The climb continues for the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team, as the Quakers have moved up from the 44th team in the nation to the 39th. As announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday, the Red and Blue (9-1) have been ranked in the ITA’s Top 75 poll for the fifth-straight week.

Thanks to a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents, the five-place jump has given Penn its highest ranking in the poll in program history*.

This past weekend, the Quakers returned to Philadelphia with a perfect 3-0 record after being on the road in Idaho. The Red and Blue first kicked off the weekend in Boas Indoor Tennis Center with a 4-3 win over BYU and followed it up with back-to-back 4-3 wins over then-No. 72 Boise State and then-No. 73 Utah, where it came down to the wire in both matches.

All eyes were on junior Vim De Alwis, who was locked in a third-set tiebreaker with Bronco Garrett Patton. With the match on the line, De Alwis battled through and came out on top, winning 14-12. Later, the Quakers found themselves down 3-1 against Utah but resiliency from sophomore Marshall Sharp, senior captain Jeremy Court, and freshman Josh Pompan provided the final three wins for the Penn victory.
