Philadelphia, Pa. -- The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team continued its spring success in the Levy Tennis Pavilion on Saturday witha5-2 victory over St. John's. The Quakers won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches,and the final four singles matches to take the victory.
The team of Tas Tobias and Joe Lok posted a8-5 win at first doubles while David Lynn and Mikhail Bekker clinched the doubles point with their9-7 victory at second doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Brandon O'Gara and Todd Lecher won, 8-5.
The Quakers dropped the first two singles matches, with Bekker falling to Louis Desmarteaux, 6-1, 6-7(5), 10-5 at No. 1. In the second position, Tobias fell to David Nylen, 6-4, 6-2. The Red and Blue came back to take the next four points and the match. At No. 3, Lynn defeated Boris Chiporukha, 6-2, 6-2 while Justin Lavner defeated Aurelia DiZazzo at No. 4, 7-6(3), 6-4. Lecher clinched the victory for the Quakers with his win at No. 5 over Morgan Bauer, 3-0, ret. At the No. 6 position, Jimmy Fairbanks defeated Claudio Halim, 6-2, 6-4 to close out the match.
The Quakers are next in action later today when they host Swarthmore at 5 p.m. in the Levy Tennis Pavilion.
