Philadelphia, Pa. The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team, ranked 67th in the nation, defeated the Naval Academy, 6-1, on Wednesday in the Levy Tennis Pavilion. With the win, the Quakers improved to 11-3 on the season and 7-0 at home.
The Quakers opened the match by sweeping the doubles to take that point. Mikhail Bekker and David Lynn won at No. 1, 8-1, over Brandon Carter and Alex James. At the second position, Tas Tobias and Anthony Pu defeated Adrian Lai and Davy Lee, 8-3, while Brandon O’Gara and Todd Lecher defeated Stanley Kahl and Nate Malnati, 8-0.
Bekker continued the Quakers’ dominance with a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Carter in the No. 1 singles position. Justin Lavner fell, 6-4, 6-3, to Lee for the Quakers lone loss of the day in the second spot. Tobias defeated Kahl, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 and Lecher defeated James, 6-2, 6-3, in the fourth slot. Jimmy Fairbanks defeated Haley Dodson, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 and Joseph Lok defeated Lai, 6-2, 6-1, in the sixth position.
The Quakers are next in action on Tuesday, March 29 when they host Saint Josephs at 2 p.m.
