Philadelphia, Pa. -- The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team defeated Rutgers, 6-1, on Wednesday in the Levy Tennis Pavilion. The win improved the Quakers record to 7-0 on the season.
The Quakers took the doubles point after dropping the first doubles match. The team of Joseph Lok and Tas Tobias fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Penn then bounced back, taking the point with wins by Audrey Pu and Justin Lavner, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles, and Brandon O'Gara and Todd Lecher clinched the point with a 9-8(9) win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Mikhail Bekker started things off with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1. The Quakers then took the next two points, with David Lynn and Lavner notching victories at Nos. 2 and 3, 6-2, 6-1, and 6-2, 6-2. Tobias dropped the No. 4 singles match, 1-6, 7-6(3), 10-6 for the Quakers lone loss of the day. Craig Rubin won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3, and Jimmy Fairbanks took the point at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.
"They played hard in every match," Head Coach Mark Riley said about his team. "We play nine individual matches and it felt like they played hard in every match, made good choices and had good shot selection."
The Quakers are next in action on Saturday, Feb. 26 when they travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army at 1 p.m.
