Men's Tennis Drops Final Ivy Contest to Columbia

NEW YORK – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team concluded its 2015 spring season with a loss to Ivy League Champions No. 23 Columbia on Sunday in the Dick Savitt Tennis Center, 7-0. The Quakers wrap up the season with a 14-10 overall record and look to beginning building next year’s team.

After dropping the doubles point, the Red and Blue went to work in singles against the defending Ivy Champions. While the Lions took first sets on courts 1-5, junior Austin Kaplan grabbed a 6-3 first set win over Bert Vancura at No.6. Elsewhere, fellow junior Blaine Willenborg took a 7-5 second set from Dragos Ignat at No. 2 to force a decisive third set.

Columbia clinched the match with wins at 4, 1, and 5. Both battling in third set tiebreakers, both Kaplan and Willenborg fell, 1-0(10) and 1-0(9) respectively.
