Men's Tennis Ends Spring Break Trip with UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. -- The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team went down with a fight at Anteater Tennis Stadium Sunday against UC Irvine. Four of the singles matches went to three sets, but the Quakers came up short, 5-2. This concludes the Red and Blue’s trip to the west coast.

UCI took the first point, after wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles spots by identical scores of 8-4.

Penn started out winning five of the six opening sets in the singles matches. Junior Jeremy Court evened the overall score with a win at the No. 3 spot over Jonathan Hammel (7-5, 6-2).

But the Anteaters responded, winning the next three singles matches in a row – at the No. 2, 6, and 1 slots -- to clinch the victory.

Freshman Matt Nardella was the last of the singles match to conclude. Nardella, playing at the No. 4 spot, defeated Rafael Davidian in two sets (7-6, 7-6).
