Philadelphia - The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team fell to Cornell, 4-3, in the Levy TennisPavilion on Friday. The Quakers took the doubles point but won only two singles matches in the loss.
At No. 1 doubles, Mikhail Bekker and David Lynn fell to Nick Brunner and Josh Raff, 8-4. Brandon O'Gara and Todd Lecher then defeated Dan Brous and Charn Bak, 8-6, in the No. 2 spot and Joseph Lok and Anthony Pu clinched the point for Penn with an 8-4 win over Brett McKeon and Rory Heggie in the third position.
In singles play, Bekker defeated McKeon, 7-6, 6-2, in the first position. Cornell took the next two lineup spots, with Brunner defeating Lynn atNo. 2, 6-4, 6-2, and Raff defeating Tas Tobias in the third position, 7-5, 6-3. Lecher continued his winning ways for the Quakers at No. 4, defeating Brous, 7-5, 6-4. Jimmy Fairbanks then fell to Heggie at No. 5, 6-4, 7-6. In the deciding match, Jongle Yu defeated Lok, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Quakers will wrap up their Ivy League season on Sunday, April 24 when they travel to Columbia for a noon start.
