Men's Tennis Repeats History, Defeats Temple 7-0

PHILADELPHIA – History repeated, so to say, as the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team had a dominant performance over Philadelphia rival Temple Sunday morning in the Levy Tennis Pavilion, winning 7-0 for the second year in a row. With the win over the Owls, the Quakers will gear up and travel to the West Coast for their annual spring break trip. Over the week, the Red and Blue will compete with UCSB (3/11), SDSU (3/12), Cal Poly (3/15), and UC Irvine (3/16).

The win over Temple marked the first home win of the spring season.

Penn shook things up a bit in the doubles. Playing in the number one spot was senior co-captain Zach Katz and freshman Marshall Sharp. The duo clinched the doubles point after finishing second with their win over Maros Januvka and Hernan Vasconez (8-6). Finishing first at the No. 3 doubles spot was freshman Thomas Spratt and sophomore Austin Kaplan, when the two Quakers took down Owls Kristian Marquart and Vineet Nara (8-4). Also getting in on doubles action was junior Jeremy Court and sophomore Vim De Alwis, who completed the sweep with a win over Nicolas Paulus and Hicham Belkssir (7-6).

Up 1-0, the Red and Blue finished four of their six singles flights in two sets.

Earning the second point for Penn at the No. 3 slot was Court, who defeated Hicham Belkssir (6-3, 6-0). Katz followed Court, giving the Quakers a 3-0 lead, with a win over Santiago Canete (6-3, 6-1).
