Men's Tennis Sends Eight to ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – Eight players will compete and represent the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team this weekend at the 2013 USTA/ITA Regional Championships in New Haven, Connecticut. Fellow Ivy League institution Yale will host the Northeast Division I championships starting this Thursday continuing through next Tuesday.

Senior Nikola Kocovic, junior Jeremy Court, sophomore Vim De Alwis, freshman Matt Nardella, and freshman Marshall Sharp will represent Penn in the main draw, while Senior Zach Katz, sophomore Blaine Willenborg, and freshman Thomas Spratt will start in the qualifying rounds to vie for a spot in the tournament. Each of the players will compete in the singles bout and six will contend in the doubles: Sharp/Spratt, Kocovic/Nardella, De Alwis/Katz.

The fall competition has produced positive results for the team. Nardella started his collegiate career with a 3-1 record, after he made it to the final round in the Nassau draw in the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational. At the Ivy Plus tournament, Kocovic and Nardella were paired together and won the doubles C Draw. Sharp also had a strong performance going 3-1 in the singles E Draw.
