Philadelphia, Pa. -- The University of Pennyslvania Men's Tennis team concluded the second day of play in the Penn Classic held at the Levy Tennis Pavilion in fine fashion, with four Quakers advancing to the semi finals of the two singles flights and setting up an all-Penn doubles final.
In singles action, sophomore Tas Tobias advanced to the quarterfinals of the A flight before falling to Diego Alvarado of Manhattan, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Senior Anthony Pu and sophomore Mikhail Bekker faced of in the quarterfinals of the A flight, with Bekker taking the match 7-6 (2) and 6-1 to advance to Sunday's semi finals. Three members of the Penn Men's Tennis team advanced to the semi finals of the B flight. Freshman Joseph Lok defeated Christian Husby of Princeton, 6-1, 6-0 to advance, while sophomore Jeremy Steglitz defeated teammate Ed Silver, 6-3, 6-4 to make it into the semi finals. The final member of the Penn team to advance into semi final play was freshman Brandon O'Gara, who defeated Jon O'Rourke of Maryland, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action, it wasan all-Penn semi final on Saturday as the teams of Bekker and senior David Lynn, seniors Todd Lecher and Craig Rubin, Lok/Tobias and senior Justin Lavner and O'Gara all advanced to the semi finals. Bekker/Lynn defeated Lecher/Rubin, 9-7 to advance to the final on Sunday. In the final, they will face the team of Lok/Tobias, who defeated Lavner/O'Gara, 8-4.
