PHILADELPHIA - Penn will host cross-city rival Temple in the Levy Tennis Pavilion at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
The 2-0 Quakers are coming off of a doubleheader sweep last weekend, beating Drexel and Villanova convincingly, 6-1 and 7-0. Head coach Nik DeVore split the squad for the two matches and 12 total Quakers were able to see action. Among the standouts were freshmen Nikola Kocovic and Ivan Turudic, both dominating their respective singles matches, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Mark Milbrandt also blanked his Drexel opponent by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.
Temple enters the matchup with a 2-1 record so far this spring. Last weekend, the Owls competed at the VCU 4x1 Invitational in Richmond, Va. All three matches were decided by a close 3-2 score. Temple won its first two matches on Saturday against George Mason and Richmond, but then lost to Longwood on Sunday. The Owls are led by junior captain, Filip Rams, who won both of his matches over the weekend at the No. 1 spot.
Penn and Temple didn't meet each other last season, but did two years ago in 2009, the result being a 7-0 Quaker victory. Senior Hicham Laalej and juniors Phil Law and Jason Lin are the only current members of the team who faced off against the Owls in that match. Law and Lin both came away with singles victories while Laalej and Law combined to win their doubles match.
