PHILADELPHIA – Riding high off a 5-2 win over Middle Tennessee State last Saturday, the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team will hit the road this weekend to take on Old Dominion and William & Mary. The Quakers (2-2) and Monarchs are set for a 1 p.m. battle on Saturday, while Penn will visit William & Mary on Super Bowl Sunday at 9 a.m.
Kyle Mautner (No. 1), Matt Nardella (No. 3), Nicholai Westergaard (No. 4) and Blaine Willenborg (No. 6) all notched singles wins in the victory over the Blue Raiders last weekend. The Quakers also nabbed the doubles point thanks to wins by Thomas Spratt and Willenborg (7-6) and Mautner and Nardella (6-3).
Mautner is 3-1 on top of the singles lineup this season, while Westergaard and Nardella have also picked up three wins in various spots in the lineup.
Scouting the Weekend
Old Dominion enters the weekend with a record of 2-3, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents. The Monarchs’ two triumphs have come against Richmond and Norfolk State.
Penn will be William & Mary’s fourth Ivy League foe already this season. The Tribe opened the season with a win over Yale (4-3), followed by defeats to Harvard (4-3) and Brown (5-2). Most recently, William & Mary posted wins over Coastal Carolina and Howard last Sunday.
The Quakers will host the 2016 ECAC Division I Men’s Tennis Championship next weekend at the Hecht Tennis Center. The three-day event will begin on Friday morning at 8 a.m.
