PHILADELPHIA - Before the indoor track and field season really starts in full swing in January, the University of Pennsylvania men's team will participate in their only meet in December on Saturday at the Jack Pyrah Invitational. The meet, hosted by Villanova University, will be held at Haverford College.
As is tradition with the annual December meet, the Quakers will be sending just a select few to the competition, which includes mostly underclassmen.
Following this season-opening event, the Quakers' indoor track and field season starts in mid-January.
The Quakers return 29 letterwinners - and lose just 11 - from a team that finished third at the outdoor Heptagonal championships in May. This includes two-time 2009 indoor All-Ivy honoree John Carelli, who earned the recognition with the heptagonal title in the triple jump and a runner-up finish in the long jump.
Results from the Jack Pyrah Invitational can be found at www.PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the day’s events.
