GAINESVILLE, Fla.--The Penn men's track and field team entered four events at the NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla., but did not advance out of the preliminary round in the 800 meter run or 4x100 meter relay and did not mark in the top five of the pole vault or long jump, Saturday.

Junior Tim Kaijala ran a time of 1:49.92 in the 800m to take third in his heat and finished 11th in the 30-man field. Only the winners of each of four heats and the next four best times advanced to Sunday's final.

In the 4x100m relay,Kevin Benjamin, Joey Brown, Sam Shepherd and Grafton Ifill combined for a time of 41.21 and a 15th-place overall finish.

In the pole vault, sophomore Anthony Abitante failed to clear the opening height of 4.91m. The winning height was 5.51m, a new East Region record, set by Binghampton-SUNY senior Rory Quiller.

Kyle Calvo finished 16th in the long jump with a distance of 7.13m.
