PHILADELPHIA A new year of track and field begins this Saturday for the University of Pennsylvania men’s team with the Navy Invite at the United States Naval Academy’s brand new Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. Navy’s five-team meet will also feature Princeton, Virginia Commonwealth and American University.
The meet is scheduled to start with the weight throw at 11 a.m. with the track events beginning at noon with the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles. The meet is to conclude with the distance medley relay, set at 2:20 p.m.
In Penn’s only other meet this season, junior John Carelli notched IC4A qualifying marks with victories in two eventsthe long jump and the triple jumpat Princeton on Dec. 6. At the same meet, Penn also placed the top two in the 1,000 meters with sophomore Darryll Oliver leading freshman Brian Fulton to the finish line.
In Annapolis last season, sophomore James Foreman won the pole vault and the 3,200-meter relay team also took home first-place.
