PHILADELPHIA – A split squad will have a select few at the Penn State National Open this weekend, but the majority of the University of Pennsylvania men's indoor track and field team will be at Navy's Wesley Brown Invitational on Saturday.

Penn is one of seven teams scheduled to compete at the Wesley Brown Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m., with the weight throw. The first track event, the 5,000 meters, is set for noon. Less than three hours later, the meet is set to conclude with the distance medley relay.

One of the toughest meets in the nation this weekend, the Penn State National Open features approximately 50 teams in the field, which includes Tennessee, Georgetown, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Central Florida, Ohio State and West Virginia. The event begins on Friday at 4:45 p.m. with the mile and continues through the 60 meters at 9:25 p.m. The meet resumes Saturday with the 400 meters at 11 a.m., and concludes at 5:50 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.

Last week, of the 24 teams that scored at the Great Dane Classic at The Armory in New York City, the Quakers finished seventh. Sophomore Tim Carey, junior Efayomi Carr and the distance medley relay team all qualified for the IC4A's.

Last year at the Penn State National Open, Penn qualified six more individuals for the IC4A Championships. Carey excelled in the 200 meters. His ninth-place finish - he was second among underclassmen - timed out at 22.22, two-hundreths of a second better than the qualifying time.
