Indoor Postseason Qualifiers
PHILADELPHIA - In lieu of roses and chocolates, the University of Pennsylvania men’s track and field team will try to give the gift of a strong performance instead, as the Quakers travel to New York, N.Y., for the Virginia Duals on Valentine’s Day.
Events begin on Saturday at The Armory Track and Field Center with the 60-meter hurdles at 6.48 p.m., and conclude with the 1,600-meter relay at 9.59 p.m. Field events start with the long jump at 7:15 p.m.
The three-hour meet will be scored on a 6-4-3-2-1 scale for individual events and 6-3-1 scale for relay races. There is a limit of two scorers per school per event and a limit of four competitors per event.
Nine teams are scheduled to participate in the meet, including Ivy League rivals Columbia, Cornell and Brown. Penn will compete with Brown, Maryland, Rutgers and Wake Forest in the Men’s Red (Meet B) division, while Columbia, Cornell, Lehigh and Virginia will form the Men’s Gray (Meet A) division.
The Red and Blue seek to continue their impressive run in 2009, after another notable showing at the Yale Giegengack Invitational last weekend. Junior John Carelli won his third triple jump title of the season with a career-best 14.90 meters (48 feet, 10 ¾ inches), while sophomore James Foreman claimed the pole vault crown with a mark of 4.95 meters (16 feet, 2 ¾ ft.). Sophomore Robert Dugger also added to Penn’s list of IC4A qualifiers after posting a time of 4:13.96 in the mile.
Complete results from the Virginia Duals will be available at PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the meet.
