Men's Track & Field Competes at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--Members of thePenn men's track and field competed at the 2007 Penn State National Open, Friday andSaturday in State College, Pa.

Junior Tim Kaijala ran a personal-best 2:23.12 to win the 1000 meter run. His previous best was 2:24.97.

Kaijala also took the third leg of Penn’s first-place 4x800 meter relay. Fellow junior John Guzman, freshman Kevin Kiley and sophomore Bryan Scotland completed the team that combined for a time of 7:35.98.

Cody Schovitz took third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.08 seconds. Andrew Anderson and Joey Brown also ran the event, coming in 10th and 17th, respectively.

The 4x400 meter relay placed ninth in the seeded race with a time of 3:19.15. The team was comprised of Anderson, Schovitz, David Lint and Sam Shepherd.

Kyle Calvo placed third in the heptathlon with 5153 points, just shy of the 5200 points needed for an NCAA provisional mark. With the events split over the two days, on day one the junior ran a time of 7.34 in the 60 meter dash, long jump (6.90m), shot put (11.92m) and high jump (1.97m).

After the first day, Calvo was in second place. On Saturday, he ran an 8.53 in the 60 meter hurdles, cleared 4.10m in the pole vault and a finished in 2:56.60 in the 1000 meters.

Max Westman scored a 4897 for seventh place. Mike Hall also completed all seven events for a 10th place finish and 4310 points.

The Quakers head to New Haven, Conn., for the Yale Invitational, Feb. 2-3.
