Men's Track & Field Heads to Millrose, Princeton

PHILADELPHIA - In addition to a Heps tune-up meet at Princeton on Saturday, the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team is also sending a 4x800-meter relay team to the prestigious Millrose Games at the Armory which air live on and on tape delay on ESPN.

Representing the Quakers at the nation's most prestigious indoor track and field meet are Mato Bekelja, Tim Hamlett, Kirk Webb and Tom Timmins. The foursome is scheduled to run at 7:50 p.m. The event can be seen live on and the Millrose Games will be broadcast on ESPN Sunday from 8-10 p.m.

At Jadwin Gym, the Princeton Invitational begins at 11 a.m. with the weight throw and long jump. The track events begin at noon with the 60 meters and conclude at 3:50 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.

Last week, four Quakers claimed individual victories at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational at the Armory. Junior Mason Smith posted a win in the 60 meters, sophomore Tom Timmins bettered a field of 20 in the 400 meters, freshman Thomas Pitt won his fourth individual event of his inaugural season in the Red and Blue when he was tops in the high jump, and sophomore Jordan Jett won the triple jump.

This will be the first trip to Princeton this year for the Quakers and the first time the men's team has made an appearance since the start of the 2008-09 campaign.

Up next for the Quakers are the 2013 Indoor Heptagonal Championships which are scheduled for Feb. 23-24 at Harvard's Gordon Track.
